BEST ROUTE TO VALLE DE GUADALUPE

Friday, my lover and I headed out to Mexico for a surprise weekend. Specifically Valle de Guadalupe, a new area in Baja, Mexico. From LA it takes about 3hrs to get there. I recommend leaving either early morning our around noonish. Personally prefer to take the 405 freeway route as I think that entry to the country is much less complex & straight than taking the 5 freeway. Crossing the border over to Mexico is extremely easy, got asked zero questions and took about 10 minutes to cross. I would recommend taking the toll road 1D, not only does it shorten your driving time (meaning more time to enjoy your stay) but it’s a a scenic beach drive very similar to PCH drive. Also very inexpensive at about $1.50USD (you can pay with both USD or MXN). TAKE THE TOLL ROAD there’s no traffic just one long nicely paved road with beach views along the hills of Mexico making it super easy to enjoy the drive.

WHAT IS VALLE DE GUADALUPE?

Valle de Guadalupe is a new area in Baja, Mexico. It’s Mexico’s best known wine area. Think of Joshua Tree, Napa Valley, and Temecula all blended into one, that is Valle de Guadalupe most specifically LA RUTA DEL VINO ( The Wine Route) . It’s an area known for it’s wineries and cuilinary scene. Also, outstanding architecture.

WHERE TO STAY?

Valle de Guadalupe has such beautiful places to choose from to stay that I guarantee you can’t go wrong with any you choose. We stayed at Campera Hotel Burbuja (The Bubble Hotel). An unforgettable experience we loved. Our private dinner & the shooting stars were my favorite part of it. The bubble is located in the middle of the vineyards and you have great views of the sky with 3/4 of the bible being see through. You can also change the colors of your bubble. The hotel has a total of 12 bubbles and bubble 11 has a jacuzzi in your private area. All bubbles are only for two ppl max. Great security, as it is a gated area that can only be entered upon reservation, free parking inside, covid-19 safety procedures are well take care off, and excellent customer service. The Bubble is fully equipped with a toilet, shower, sink mirror drawers, extra blanket, heater/ac system (it does make loud noises at times but I slept right thru it), a table for two outside, a mini bar with their wine, coffee, and water. The bubble is surrounded by haystacks for privacy. The hotel has a small shop and a cute open air restaurant. We opted for a private diner just outside your bubble. The food was exquisitely flavorful paired with an excellent wine selection from there vineyards. Def brought some home with us. DON’T BUY TOO MANY because you are only allowed 2Liters of wine through the border.

BREAKFAST MUST TRY!

-La Cocina de Dona Estela (it was awarded as the best breakfast in the world in 2015) authentic Mexican food . not a glamorous restaurant. Expect to wait about an hour to eat here. First come first serve.

-Huevos République is another great option with shorter wait times.

ACTIVITIES?

So much to choose from hot air ballooning, wine tours, creating your own wine, surfing but we went horseback riding with Jose & Erin. It was by far the best experience i’ve had. Hopped on our horses at the ranch and just the two of us and our guides rode through the river trail that led to the beach. The beach was clean, large wide space to run free with the horses, no one at the beach besides us really. Ive done horseback riding but they usually just let you ride them in a straight line one behind another in a group and riding slowly through a scenery. Ours guides made sure to teach us what to do and how to control the horses safely and let us run with the horses. When I say run I mean I’ve never gone sooooooo FAST on a horse it was as if I was taking off on a roller coaster ride. I definitely felt a mixture of chilaquiles and adrenaline. Another thing I loved about it was that I didn’t have to carry my purse or phone to take pics because they took videos and pics of us. To make it even better those pictures and videos were sent to us later that same day for free.

TIP: If you decide to do the horseback riding with Jose & Erin. Only 9 min away head to Encanto Restaurante for some food and drinks by the cliffside with great beach views.

Decided to leave Valle de Guadalupe and head out towards the beach and relax at Hotel Las Rosas & Spa.

A Bit chilly to get in the infinity pool looking out to the beach but enjoyed the sunset from the cuzzi. (@ Hotel Las Rosas & Spa)

Drank our wine on our balcony. Enjoyed the Spa and finished it off with dinner at BOULES. About 20 minutes away from the Valle. Great food, ambiance, and service. 10/10 recommend.
